We produce the waste management services falling under the responsibility of municipality in the following municipalities: Hailuoto, Ii, Kempele, Lumijoki, Oulu, Pudasjärvi, Raahe, Siikajoki and Simo. We focus on material efficiency and promoting circular economy.
There are totally eight waste drop off points in our operational area. In our main location, Rusko waste treatment center located in the city of Oulu, we have 26 permanent employees and several collaboration partners together with whom we produce sustainable waste management services while securing the wellbeing of inhabitants and the environment.
Rusko waste treatment center includes the largest drop off point of the region for recyclable, hazardous and waste electric and electrical waste as well as waste treatment facilities for bulky mixed municipal waste, construction waste, liquid wastes, oily waste, bio waste (a biogas plant) and sewage sludge.
We put emphasis on waste counselling to citizens in order to encourage sorting of waste where it is generated. In 2018 majority of municipal waste received by Rusko waste treatment center was either recycled as material or recovered as energy, only less than one per cent was land filled.
For over 20 years, we have been selling biogas collected from Rusko landfill area to our industrial customers to be used as energy, and since 2017, we have been purifying biogas produced in the anaerobic digestion process of bio waste and selling it as vehicle fuel in our own refueling station.
We offer space from Rusko waste treatment center for future pilot projects based on circular economy.
